Review: Friday the 13th Part 2

SPOILER DISCUSSION

1.Mark’s (Tom McBride) death is brutal, unexpected, and ranks in my upper echelon of kills in the Friday franchise. The movie spends so much time just showing him as a nice guy, training, and trying to hold onto hope despite his debilitating injury. Watching him not only die but get hatchet-ed in the head while falling down a staircase while in his wheelchair is something else entirely. At least you can’t say Jason discriminates.

2. While I don’t like how the ending replicates the originals – the fake-out scare, the happy music, followed by Jason jumping in after being “dead- and think that it could’ve tried to do something more innovative. That being said his face reveal is my favorite in the franchise so I can’t be too upset.

3.When the two kids find the mangled dog in the forest and then get caught by the police, I genuinely thought they’d get pulled in for the brutal display. Instead, it seems like only they saw the dead dog which is wild because nothing is obstructing it from anyone else’s view.

4. I love the cute little interaction between Ginny and Paul near the beginning of the movie. He tries to go in for a small little jab about her subject of study and then she naturally throws it back at him. It’s a nice little character moment that informs us about their relationship but also introduces Ginny’s educational background in an organic way.

5.Terry’s (Kirsten Baker) body being one of the corpses in Jason’s living quarters/temple is an interesting addition that makes me think that he was keeping her body as it was to “revive” the spirit of his mother into the new body. She’s the only fully intact body there and the way Pamela’s head is positioned makes the whole process look like a ritual of some kind. Alas, we’ll never really know because the franchise never makes a real mention of it again.
