Film Review: The Hitman’s Bodyguard – 2017

SPOILER DISCUSSION

1.The only sequence that demonstrates any sense of style is the opening with the split-screen shots but even they seem unmotivated. Two of these shots show Michael doing the same thing in both sides of the frame which ruins the sequence’s overall rhythm along with the idea of Michael’s day being planned in fully linear fashion.

2.Th green screen compositing at the 70 minute mark is downright distracting especially given how long it goes on. The lighting around him is clearly off. It’s obvious that Gosling is not actually in the scene so the joke about him ignoring the elements is not nearly as impactful. The joke also feels like a missed opportunity; if Kincaid could be seen clearly escaping in the background for a large portion of the scene, then Michael’s lack of attention would be even more pronounced. Instead, he barely makes an appearance for a brief moment and runs off as general chaos fills the background.
