Review: Jeepers Creepers

SPOILER DISCUSSION

1.The whole build up of the creeper is so interesting to think about;in particular, what makes it interested in one body part versus another? As of writing this I have not seen 2 or 3 so if either of those answer the question let me know. I know that Jezelle says it “smells” fear , but that begs the question of whether or not it’s an organ emitting fear (whatever that means) or if a person’s fear draws the creature at which point it selects the organ based on some other criteria.

The reason I bring it up is because Darry is the only one of the two siblings to see a light down the drainage pipe. He’s the only one who’s seen the true horrors of the lair so maybe that’s why his eyes get taken. In a more spiritual way, maybe Darry can see when people need help. His reasoning for bringing the laundry on the trip is , in his own words, because his it makes his mom happy to know he still needs her. He sees the bag being thrown and makes the decision to go help because that’s what it means to be a better person. The lights in this context might just be the reflection of his need to help someone down there. If that’s the case then the Creeper’s eating feels even more disgusting because it’s in a sense, eating empathy. Granted writing this all out makes it seem that much more absurd, so take it with a grain of salt.

2. Why did the creature burn the church down if it can very clearly take care of itself and regenerate? It’d only burn it down so no one else could find it, but why would it care? Does it have a natural predator? Probably not given how badly it destroyed anyone who tried to fight it. In that case it most likely burned it down so that no one else could find the lair and knowledge of the creature wouldn’t go public. But that also doesn’t make sense because the creature left all the officers, Trish, and Jezelle alive. Each of them knows exactly what’s going on and could raise an assault against the creature (not saying any assault would be successful) . So if the creature doesn’t care about fighting people or keeping its presence secret in a true sense, going back to burn the place would have no purpose.

3. Speaking of the “House of Pain” it looked genuinely horrifying. The first time I saw it I was in shock. The way it’s slowly revealed to the audience and then Darry is unexpected and really demonstrates how screwed the protagonists are.

4. The scene where Trish keeps trying to run the Creeper over is hilarious. I love watching him run over the car like a slap-stick sketch. It does however turn an otherwise horrifying encounter in a goofy one. If it only happened once I could have understood, but then it’s repeated which makes it even funnier.
