1. The smug chauvinistic professor being a source of constant exposition about Candyman, might be one of my favorite expository dumps I’ve seen. Obviously someone that full of themselves would relish in any opportunity to “school” anyone else, especially a women confident enough to claim that she would “bury him.” What makes the scene so much better, is that instead of focusing on the professor, the camera focuses on Helen’s face, capturing her reaction to the graphic tale of Candyman. Her face reveals that she finds the tale horrifying and sorrowful. Candyman is sympathetic to her which makes her digging into his story more personal. That’s withstanding the fact that she’s literally his reincarnated lover.
