The train chase scene was gripping and scary in a more immediate sense. I knew that David was after the traveler and right behind him, but the camera angle changes and the timing makes the wait for his appearance that much more tense. When he finally shows up, near the bottom of the screen, coming up as a menace, it really feels like a monster is loose.
2. The ending was really sad and I didn’t see it coming. I think that’s why I ended up liking the movie so much more. It felt like David “returned” to his humanity in some sense when Alex (Jenny Agutter) called out to him, so when he’s shot down – it feels more personal because it doesn’t feel like the monster. The death already felt deflating because David was genuinely likable and amicable the whole movie and I was rooting for him. To see him shot over something he couldn’t control or do anything about was tragic.
